Teeth Whitening with Charcoal Powder

Having a billion dollar smile shouldn’t cost a billion dollars. My grandma always said to brush with baking powder, but that doesn't always taste right! And we know that these days, going to the dentist costs way too much, and frankly, those blue lights the dentists use to bleach your teeth just look too scary - at least to me. But fear not, there is a solution; Charcoal Powder.

So if you are intrigued about this new rave, read on! Here you will find out everything you need to know, and even if it really works. Then you can make up your own mind as to whether it is worth a try to whiten your teeth with Charcoal powder.

What the heck is Charcoal powder anyway?

Don’t worry, it is not the left over black mass after a Sunday barbecue. It is similar however. This type has been specially formulated to be healthy and helpful when in your mouth. Especially made for teeth. How it is made? Glad you asked! Well, the charcoal is first heated up with gas so that large pores are made in the charcoal in which chemicals are trapped. Usually used to help alleviate tummy problems,  scientists have now also realized that with its tastelessness and being odourless Charcoal could offer more than meets the eye.

How does it whiten teeth?

The charcoal powder pores, previously mentioned with the ability to trap chemicals is able to bind with those dirty, rough and tough parts of your teeth, also known as surface stains and plaque. In turn, this means that it is easier for the yellowing foods and drinks to be attracted to the charcoal and carried away. It just needs to be left on your teeth for a while so that it creates a strong bond with all the nasties, meaning that when you rinse it off, all the yuck goes with it. This is essentially how the charcoal powder whitens teeth. Note that it is true sometimes that beauty is just skin deep - While the charcoal powder takes off the stain and dirt on the top layers, teeth that are deeper stained won’t benefit too much. For this, you will need to see a dentist.

Softly does it.

Even though it might feel satisfying to scrub at your teeth, this is not the way to do it. The softer the better. Firstly you won’t be scrubbing away at your enamel which keeps your teeth strong, and secondly you will be doing your teeth a favor. Charcoal powder is rough, so you need to be extra-soft. Take care of your pearly whites and they will serve you for a long time!

How is it done?

So if you have been won over by the charcoal powder, here is a step by step guide as to how to do it.

  1. With the Charcoal powder, depending on which one you buy, you might need to do some extra crushing up. Whatever the case, you need about 1-2 teaspoons of the powdered stuff. Once you have done the grinding, add water, but only enough water so that a paste is formed.
  2. Apply the paste to your teeth. You do not need to brush your teeth prior to this, but it could be a good idea because you would be allowing the charcoal powder to go a little deeper. Remember as previously said the softer the better. When doing this you need to dab or tap the mixture onto your teeth, you don’t want to make any unneeded damage.
  3. Leave the charcoal powder on your teeth for a few minutes, about 3 to 5 minutes to be safe. This is an excellent time to take selfies with your funky looking teeth and send them to friends for an extra bit of fun. During this time your teeth will be getting a deep clean and the surface nasties are being gently removed.
  4. Rinse your mouth! This might take a few times to get rid of all the charcoal powder, and then finally brush your teeth with regular toothpaste. The best way to brush is in small circles on each tooth.

There you have it! Teeth whitening with Charcoal powder. Here is a free tip for good measure: Only floss the teeth you want to keep - haha!. Now you will be ready to go out with a twinkle in your smile.

These days, the topic of the healthiest oils for cooking is a hot one. And with the wealth of options we have available, there is some confusion surrounding the healthiest oils to use.

The matter has not been helped by new entrants who have joined the healthy oils fray. Coconut oil, for example. Or butter, which is making a comeback after a long absence triggered by claims that the creamy condiment causes diabetes, obesity and is bad for the heart, assertions that have since been refuted.
